Current Goals:
Goal 1: To promote student reflection using collaborative tools.
Goal 2: To Evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make use of emerging tools and resources that support student learning.
What I have learned: I have learned that it is important to take things in steps. My original goal was to teach students the basics of using online tools to communicate and collaborate. I did this using a class blog. I now feel that students are ready to move on to creating a wiki. I have also learned the importance of utilizing the thoughts and ideas of other people. Through online collaboration and discussions with colleagues I have learned some valuable tools that will help me become a better teacher and incorporate technology in a way that will help my students learn. My second goal is one that I will continue to work towards indefinately as I think it is one that can never fully be reached!
New Learning goals:
Throughout this course I have developed ideas through collaboration and research to help me find ways for my students to reflect using collaborative tools. I have since met this goal and feel that my students are ready to move forward to a more complex form of collaboration.
The learning goal that I will set for myself now includes: designing and developing digital age learning experiences and assessment. I will continue to utilize the GAME plan approach as I work my way through accomplishing my goals with my students.
Carrie - I agree that your second goal will be ongoing. Things are changing so rapidly and new technology will be introduced, so we all need to stay on top of our game!
ReplyDeleteI think some of the most valuable things I have learned from other teachers are things that did NOT work in their classrooms. I have been able to avoid many mistakes and problems this way. I have also shared things that didn't work so well, too, for the same reason.
ReplyDeleteI agree, some of the best lessons come from mistakes, especially my own!
ReplyDeleteThe opportunity to develop a personal learning community will be key in accomplishing your second goal. Making the idea of learning the new technology on ongoing process will allow for continued growth. Once we think we know it all, that is when it all changes.
ReplyDeleteA true educator never stops learning! I am glad that your GAME Plan has been successful. My students have worked with wiki's and enjoyed the experience. I'm sure yours will like it as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Carrie,
ReplyDeleteTaking things step-by-step is such an advantageous strategy. We (and our students) are less likely to become overwhelmed and it is easier to see progress and enjoy a positive experience with smaller, manageable goals.
A blog makes a nice transition to a Wiki.
Thanks for sharing.
Susan
Way to go, working with a blog and now your students are ready to use wikis. I do agree with your comment of collaborating with others. This is so important, especially communicating with others who have already worked with something you are attempting in the classroom.
